  1. Above is the reason why I rarely advise strum patterns and think they are unhelpful. Who's says that is right? It really depends on the style and feel you want to give the piece. Strictly speaking down down down down is correct too. Learn the rhythm then apply your own feel and don't be swayed by those saying you MUST play it this way or that

  2. I agree with Barry. Someone asked me how I strummed a particular song and I frankly couldn't tell them. I strummed the way I was feeling the tune as I do with all of my songs.

  3. I'm interested in strumming patterns, just because I'm starting a club. I 'feel' this one as D-DU-UDU, but as soon as I get some input, it could well change.

  4. as a beginner trying to learn the uke then any suggested strums are good as and when i get better i will try different strums and i take on board what barry says but at this stage playing songs is important

  5. Get the song up on YouTube or cd and play along. Pick out the basic beat as that is all you need. The song wasn't written for the uke so any pattern is only someone else's interpretation

  6. As a beginner, I agree with Keith. It's helpful to have somewhere to start when learning. It's impossible to "apply your own feel" when one has little to no experience playing uke. It helps me a ton to learn popular strum patterns to a particular song, then when I actually learn to play it, I can add my flair.

    1. But any pattern is only somebody elses interpretation. What I am suggesting is ignore any pattern - just learn to play with the beat of the song perfectly. I am sure that when people hit that level, patterns will fall out naturally
