Dream A Little Dream - ukulele chords

Originally a hit for Mama Cass and the Mamas and the Papas, this sweet song works wonderfully well on ukulele. It was also covered by Eddie Vedder on his recent Ukulele Songs album. Now you can give it a try!

"Dream a Little Dream" by The Mamas And The Papas

C B7 Ab G7
Stars shining bright above you
C B7 A7
Night breezes seem to whisper "I love you"
F Fm
Birds singing in a sycamore tree
C Ab G7
Dream a little dream of me

C B7 Ab G7
Say "Nightie-night" and kiss me
C B7. A7
Just hold me tight and tell me you'll miss me
F. Fm
While I'm alone and blue as can be
C Ab C
Dream a little dream of me

A. A6. E7
Stars fading but I linger on, dear
A A6. E7
Still craving your kiss
A. A6. E7
I 'm longing to linger till dawn, dear
A Ab G7
Just saying this:

C. B7. Ab. G7
Sweet dreams till sunbeams find you
C. B7. A7
Sweet dreams that leave all worries far behind you
F Fm
But in your dreams whatever they be
C Ab. C
Dream a little dream of me

  2. I think he plays it in G. At least it appears so in the standard tunning.

  4. I like the format.
I make a text document in my song folder. Very handy.
Should anyone care, the first recording was by Ozzie Nelson in February, 1931.

  6. To print - select the text and when you print (Ctrl-P), check "selection only" if the option appears.

  7. Actually it was first a hit in the 1920s for Jack Leon and his band. I have it on an old 78 rpm...but Mama Cass's version is far better :)

  8. I think Vedder's version pays precious little respect to one of the most charming popular songs of all time, and despite what it says on the album's track listing, the song's title is 'Dream A Little Dream Of Me'. Beats me why those two little words were dropped off!

By the way, amongst lots of problems with the chords in the above version, the F should be a Dm, and the following chords for the last line before the "Stars shining..." bit work much better:

    C / Ab7 G7 C / E7 /

It's a shame there are so many bad versions of this song on the Internet. People don't seem to use their ears.

  9. But Bill, it's just an interpretation - as you can see from the above there have been lots of versions ... Which is 'best' is all down to personal choice.

  10. Fair enough, Barry. I've heard lots of versions, but I'd never try to claim that my favourite is the best. Vedder's just happens to be my least favourite.

By the way, those chords I gave above were for the last line before the "Stars fading..." bit, not "Stars shining...". Oops.
