Omega Ukulele Competition Results and my Apology

Hi folks! Far later than I expected to be writing this, but I know many many people have been awaiting results from the competition for the 5th birthday to win all the ukulele goodies.

For those not aware, the simple fact is that I was rushed into hospital before Christmas with Heart Failure and only recently now been discharged. I am much better health wise, but a long road and programme ahead. Unfortunately that has led to Got A Ukulele being unavoidably left well alone for the last couple of weeks.

Looking forward, things will get back to normal  -just bear with me!  Can I also take this opportunity to say a HUGE thank your for best wishes messages from readers and friends which have really humbled me!

Moving on - the draw was made shortly before I was taken ill and there were MANY entries - the correct answer was found by most people and the name of the new Omega uke in development is the Klasiko uke. You should have found the correct uke on their website on the link below...

http://omegamusic.co.uk/buy/omega-klasiko-ii-solid-cedar-top-rosewood-concert-ukulele

Below are listed the lucky winners - and thanks to all others who entered.

FIRST PRIZE (Zedro Uke) - Jody Bray - Lancing, UK
SECOND PRIZE  (Clip on tuner) - Caroline Pocklington, UK
THIRD PRIZE (Toe Tapper) - Michael Smith - Glasgow
FOURTH PRIZE (Capo) - Stephen Butler - Pembrokeshire
FIFTH PRIZE  (Belt Support)- Lucy Farrar - Conwy

Thanks all for your patience at this difficult time!

A Ukulele Has A Happy New Home!

You may recall that before Christmas I ran a ukulele giveaway competition to win a Moselele bamboo concert uke. Many congratulations went to Tobi Abel in Dublin who scored the prize!

Anyway, the postal service overseas has not let me down and was delighted today to receive a mail from Tobi to let me know it had arrived safely. He also included a picture of it next to his Makala uke!

Makala and Moselele Concert ukes
Tobi's prize on the right!
When I advised Tobi he had won he was absolutely thrilled (and shocked!) - he has not been playing all that long and is now the lucky owner of two instruments. Hope you enjoy it Tobi, and thanks again to Moselele for sponsoring the prize.

N'Ukefest 2013 - The Thank You Post!

Well the buzz surrounding our ukulele get together in Cheshire on 20-21 July is really building, proving this to be the place to be for ukulele players in North West UK (and beyond!) this summer!

Our events page is  at https://www.facebook.com/events/459833000751642/ where you can keep up to date with arrangements, but the point of this post is to say thank you. It's free to attend and located at the very pretty Shady Oak Pub in Tiverton, nr Chester.

Recently, friend of The N'Ukes Mary Agnes Krell agreed to help us host a raffle in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. And what a job she has done. The prizes are absolutely superb and the generosity of those donating has really taken us aback.

First up is a marvellous handmade Brazillian Mahongany ukulele by Rob Collins of Tinguitar.com . This is an incredible prize and the N'Ukes don't mind admitting being jealous of not being able to enter!!

Here is the uke in question!

Rob Collins N'Ukefest ukulele prize

Next up, something else which will generate a LOT of interest. Doc Kazoo of the Great Aswego Kazoo Factory has given us one of his premium UkeZoo kazoos as a prize, all the way from Florida USA. You may recall I reviewed one of his Kazoo's very highly on this site. I love that kazoo, and this one below looks even better!

Great Aswego UkeZoo N'Ukefest prize
You will see it comes with all accessories, a velvet carry bag and it's even ukulele shaped! You can read more about his instruments HERE

And there's more. Courtesy of the good guys at http://www.southernukulelestore.co.uk, we are giving away an SUS branded concert ukulele - in fact one I reviewed on this blog a while ago. Here is the uke!

SUS brand ukulele prize for N'Ukefest

We also have goodie bags courtesy of Ohana Ukuleles, Living Water Strings from Ken Middleton handmade ukulele accessory by the very lovely Danielle at  Ivy Arch, and CD's and a bottle of something tasty from the good guys that are Chonkinfeckle. All that plus some N'Ukes shirts, stickers, badges etc.

Thank you SO SO much to all who are involved.

What's not to like! Raffle tickets will be sold through Saturday and Sunday and the draw takes place Sunday afternoon. Come along and help us make a good total for Macmillan!

See you there!

Ohana Competition - THE RESULT!

Ok folks - time to draw the winner in the Ohana Competition I have been running! Who has won the ukulele??

I had a staggering amount of entries (nearly 900) for the competition. Not everybody got the answers right though, so of the several hundred that did, I put the correct names in the hat and a name was pulled by my three year old daughter!

Ohana SK25 ukulele

MANY Congratulations to Lynda McAfee of Madison, WI, USA - you are the very lucky winner and I will now ask Ohana to get this great instrument winging it's way to you!  Let me know how you get on with it as I am sure Ohana would like the feedback!

For everyone else who entered, here are the correct answers.

Q1 was Who said the following of Ohana Ukuleles: "If you'll get to deal with Ohana you'll see you will always find people with no shadows and a high grade of humanity. That's why Ohana is my favorite ukulele brand.

Sadly, it wasn't me who said it (although I share the sentiment) but it was Lorenzo Vignando - also known as Ukulollo - (I accepted both answers) and the answer is on THIS PAGE

Q2 I asked what wood was the top of the Ohana TK-50WG made from. This one generated all sorts of answers, but the correct one is Solid Cedar - which can be seen on THIS PAGE

Many Many thanks to all of you who entered and keep an eye on Got A Ukulele as I hope to be running some more competitions very soon!

And lastly - many thanks to Ohana Ukuleles for donating the prize and helping me celebrate the birthday of Got A Ukulele.

Keep strumming everyone!

COMPETITION - Win a Snark Tuner

COMPETITION NOW CLOSED!

You may have seen my recent review of the Peterson Strobe tuner, and agree that its a bit pricey for most tastes. For me though, the best value and best featured ukulele clip on tuner is the Snark tuner by QWIK. And because I like that tuner quite so much, I am giving one lucky reader of Got A Ukulele a chance to win one!

snark ukulele tuner

I am giving away a brand new Red Snark (the one with the option of using it as a clip on or with the in built microphone) which as you will see in many reviews, is a highly regarded tuner. This is a free to enter prize draw.

Now this is going to be a Twitter competition. Don't worry if you have never used twitter - it's free and quick to sign up an account here.

To enter, all you have to do is the following two things

1. Follow my Twitter account - you can find me HERE or at @bazmaz_ukulele . (And don't worry, you don't have to stay following me for ever if you really don't want to, only as long as the competition runs, as I will be notifying the winner via Twitter, and will need to Private Message them to get address details.)

2. Tweet the following text exactly as you find it below. Don't add any other text.

I want to win a SNARK  tuner with Got A Ukulele  RT and follow  to enter!

And that's it. If you come across the tweet on Twitter, simply ReTweet it and make sure you are following me to enter that way too. Tweets must be made by midnight (GMT) on 5 May 2012 to qualify. After that date, I will draw a random winner and let them know they have won. Then you just need to wait for your Snark to arrive

Good luck - and feel free to share and tell your friends too!
