It also has flaws as the light shines through at the edges in the inner. With new strings it got some live but I still cannot get a lot of chords sound right. Especially strumming is hard to make sound good. Will look for a new Uke soon in the surrounding stores. Am still not sure what I should buy (i.e. at what price tag. Kala KA15-S for ca 80€ or other at 150€).

With strumming I have the problem that when holding for example the G chord the C string hits my finger holding the E string while vibrating. I have To say I am an absoute beginner Uke wise and with stringed instruments! Had I not known firsthand how good ukes could be, I would have put it down and never picked up a uke again. As it is, I have a nice Kala now, and I'm very happy wth it. I hope I never have to look at another Ashton again!Jade Lnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4724767841739249964.post-44445184817784194982017-06-26T22:40:18.265+01:002017-06-26T22:40:18.265+01:00Your distributor knowledge must appreciated Mark!Your distributor knowledge must appreciated Mark!Barry Mazhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15731777711884288947noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4724767841739249964.post-88483369578681374182017-06-26T21:58:14.868+01:002017-06-26T21:58:14.868+01:00Being in the business of selling ukuleles for a li...Being in the business of selling ukuleles for a living, I usually try to avoid making disparaging remarks about the competition (in public!) but these Ashton ukes have always been awful and it seems there's been little improvement. About five or six years ago, a customer of mine whose light shone brightly for a while before going to the wall, had some of these on sale, with the disclaimer "these ukuleles will not play in tune above the third fret"! For sure if I had found it again before buying the Cordoba I started with, I would have had second thoughts on learning this instrument..
In any case I completely agree with you, there ARE good cheap ukuleles out there, just not enough where the unsuspecting beginner will find them.
The toy image of the ukulele doesn't help either. Most music stores I know (in France, that is.) won't carry more than cheapo stuff, or entry level ukes of whatever brand they have if you're lucky.. the classic reasoning is that people aren't willing to put more than 20-30€ in a uke. I mean come on, even high end ukes are pretty cheap compared to a lot of more classic instruments...Oolongteahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09695593043500348000noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4724767841739249964.post-59590153128331534742017-06-24T18:24:24.939+01:002017-06-24T18:24:24.939+01:00Two things

It CAN be done

2. More people can be put off by crappy ukes than are like you and battle through it. People think that there is something wrong with their technique when really they are just fighting against poor intonation, high action etcBarry Mazhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15731777711884288947noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4724767841739249964.post-88071566107102007872017-06-24T17:21:52.487+01:002017-06-24T17:21:52.487+01:00Funnily enough, it's because of a very cheap u...Funnily enough, it's because of a very cheap ukulele my parents bought me when I was a kid that more than a decade later I decided to buy one and actually learn to play. Yes, it's an ultra-budget uke, but it sounds reasonable, has a comfortable playing action, and overall I even found myself thinking how I might get myself an Octopus "for the car-boot"...

My point: when you can pick up an Octopus for about the same price as the likes of the Ashton UKE100... Do you ever wish you could magically inform everyone on the planet wanting an absolute-beginner's uke: not to bother with cruddy efforts like Ashton's, and either spend a bit more, or if they really can't, go for an Octopus, a Makala Dolphin, or any uke that doesn't completely stink?

Thanks Baz as always, for "taking the bullets for the team" :-PTimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14865503170641058013noreply@blogger.com
