It is a solid cannon, and with the p/u, just about perfect for gigging. built like a tank, but with the volume of a much lighter build, mabe has to do with the cedar [very soft] and rosewood [hard]combo. I've always been a fan of cedar tops, and my first "good" uke was a cedar topped Kala. that was one I'm sorry I let get away. but now I have the Kremona, which is way classier. strumsillynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4724767841739249964.post-60572612533732328542015-10-11T09:19:26.000+01:002015-10-11T09:19:26.000+01:00I've played with Worth Low G Browns (as I have...I've played with Worth Low G Browns (as I have with most strings available). Thing is - it's next to impossible tor recommend strings to others - it's too personal and subjective. Personally don't use them on many instruments myself and prefer othersBarry Mazhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15731777711884288947noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4724767841739249964.post-41661700148522916642015-10-10T22:45:15.158+01:002015-10-10T22:45:15.158+01:00May I suggest you string your tenor with Worth Low...May I suggest you string your tenor with Worth Low G browns. I have a Kala solid Acacia tenor and the change was incredible. To add a little more, replace bone saddle and nut with ebony ones. You'll be surprised. Cheers. I was wondering i...Thank you for the review, Barry! I was wondering if you had done one on this uke, what you made of it and if you had found anything dodgy under the hood. Glad that it passed your scrutiny in that regard.

I have just played one of these and I agree - it is fabulous!!! Kicking myself that I did not buy it straight away as it is a return from someone who had it two weeks and then changed his mind about wanting a uke, so it has been reduced to £250.

I also agree about the tuners looking all wrong for the rest of the design. To me, the uke has an art deco look about it and those ornate, glitzy gold tuners look totally out of place.

It is surprisingly heavy and I don't normally like playing a heavy ukulele but this one sounds and feels just great. The tone is beautiful! (You are right that the sound on your YouTube video does not do it justice).

My first thought was, "Wonder what it would it sound like with different strings?". So, I was interested to see Matt's comment that he tried Savarez and liked the sound of those better than the Aquilas.

Aha! Found Matt's video sound comparison here - yes! Savarez wins! https://youtu.be/dwQvQTv4Xtg

I am heading back to the shop next week, with a couple of ukes that turned out to be "also rans" after I got them and with my fingers crossed for a part-ex deal on the Kremona :-)

Best wishes,
LizAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4724767841739249964.post-81143927215056464292014-03-25T13:22:38.622+00:002014-03-25T13:22:38.622+00:00Wouldn't judge too much based on what you hear... Wouldn't judge too much based on what you heard and more on what I wrote. It was recorded on a Mac microphone and compressed for youtube. Personally have played a LOT of ukes, and whilst this isn't up there with, say, a Kamaka - its sounds really sweet and better than equivalent priced Kalas for example (to my ears). It gets close but not quite to my Pono Tenor, but that Pono is significantly more expensive.Barry Mazhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15731777711884288947noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4724767841739249964.post-20791650710294886452014-03-25T13:10:18.467+00:002014-03-25T13:10:18.467+00:00It looks good and great that it is built in Europe...It looks good and great that it is built in Europe, but I am not so sure of the sound, it did not sound as good as the build suggested it might.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4724767841739249964.post-55807835816294474782014-03-22T18:19:01.184+00:002014-03-22T18:19:01.184+00:00Great stuff Baz, glad you liked it. So, I doubt it will keep its aquilas on when it is back anyway.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00089250328134832266noreply@blogger.com
